Documentation Engineer

Documentation Engineer will serve as the owner’s representative and technical expert to ensure construction contractor is performing the work in accordance with project plans and specifications and in accordance with construction industry standards.

POSITION DUTIES:

·   Conduct on-site inspection & observation of work.

·   Verify that the required material inspection and testing is performed and documented

·   Effective communication, both oral and written, with Contractor, Client, and Public.

·   Resolve Construction conflicts and prepare cost-effective solutions

·   Review pay requests and verify work completed

·   Ensure the work is free of defects and deficiencies

·   Serve as liaison between the Contractor and client, working principally through contractor’s Site Superintendent

·   Maintain Daily Progress Reports, Meeting minutes, Shop drawing submittals/approval log, and pay requests

·   Maintain records of time, equipment, and material for any changes in the work that may result in a change order.

·   Review and request adjustments of compensation and/or contract time

·   Observe, measure, and document construction activities

·   Address public complaints and concerns

REQUIREMENTS:

·   Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management

·   Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Construction Management and/or public works management.

·   Ability to travel throughout Chicago area

·   Strong written, verbal, and organizational skills

·   Knowledge in the area of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA), Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) and soils training

·   Current IDOT Construction Documentation certificate required

Job Type: Full-time

Field Engineer

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Assist Project Manager with the following:

  • On-site project inspection

  • Documentation of field conditions

  • Contract quantities

  • Taking photographs of existing conditions

  • Writing Daily Logs of completed work

  • Field Verifications

  • Field Surveying

Requirements

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering or Construction Management

  • Lifting of heavy equipment (up to 100 lbs)

  • Working is various weather conditions

  • Attention to detail

  • Extreme safety awareness

  • Good communication skills

  • Good driving record required

Resident Engineer

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Verify that the required material inspection and testing is performed and documented

  • responsible for maintaining/cataloging inspection records, photos and shop drawings

  • Generate correspondence between the owner and the General Contractor

  • Review contractor change order requests

  • Monitor contractor’ progress against approved construction schedule

  • review and process change orders

  • Review and approve contractor pay applications

  • Hold weekly construction meetings

  • Prepare and distribute meeting minutes

  • Ensure manuals and booklets required by contract documents are collected from the contractor

  • Assist with final project close-out

  • Gather documents, reports, photos, from CM field staff and prepare for official submission.

  • A valid driver’s license

  • Experience in AutoCAD, MicroStation, Microsoft Schedule and other related Windows-based software, preferably

  • Excellent time management, organizational, and oral and written communication skills

  • IDOT Documentation Certification
